Ocean Knoll Elementary School
California’s ornaments were created by Mrs. Usher’s 3rd grade class at Ocean Knoll Elementary School in conjunction with the Valise Project from Lux Art Institute. The students painted winter scenes from places they had visited on small log slices, a project based on the work of former Lux artist-in-residence Alison Moritsugu. Moritsugu is one of the artist contributors to the Valise Project, a collection of portable works of art in interesting cases that travel to schools throughout the region to provide children up-close and hands-on experiences with museum-quality art. Scenes include snow-covered landscapes, sunny skies, and lavish beaches. Ocean Knoll Elementary and Lux Art Institute are both located in Encinitas, just north of San Diego.
