The District of Columbia’s ornaments were designed and created by 8th grade students at John P. Sousa Middle School. Students created “snow globes” inspired by past and present D.C. traditions. Students built plaster relief sculptures, commonly found on DC buildings and monuments, of historic DC landmarks during the holiday season. On the back of the relief, students re-imagined the DC flag to show what they wished for the world this holiday season. Students then created a “snow globe” effect using glitter, to express the special feeling of DC during the holidays.
