The theme for Illinois’ ornaments touches upon our state’s role as a vital cultural hub. Students created imagery based on their own diverse multicultural backgrounds that best expressed how Illinois was truly a window to the world. We used very basic supplies such as wood, foam, and acrylic paint to reach what one student called the “really simple beauty of unity.” This particular after-school class titled “Comic Book Studio,” is held at Sullivan High School and is delivered through Columbia College Chicago’s award-winning Center for Community Arts Partnerships. Through its After School and Community School programs, CCAP brings the assets of the College and the community together to enrich the lives of young people. Funds for this activity were provided by a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant.
