United Action for Youth
Iowa's ornaments were designed in collaboration between an Iowa City printmaking cooperative, Zenzic Press, and United Action for Youth (UAY), a private, non-profit organization in Iowa City that has been providing a variety of free services to youth and their families for over four decades. Art is integrated into every aspect of UAY programming and is seen as an important outlet for creative expression and a skill building activity that can increase self confidence. Both Zenzic Press and UAY strive to make art accessible to the community regardless of individual's financial situation. For this project, Zenzic Press artists drew and screenprinted a unique design for UAY art club students to use in collage, taking the idea of Iowa's rich and varied land and landscape as a stepping off point (hence the abundance of corn, wind, and wind power!).
