Kansas School Children
Kansas’ ornaments were inspired by the state’s animal, the American Bison. The bison provided food, shelter, and tools for the early peoples of Kansas. This project was exciting for Kansas school children of a wide range of ages. Teen volunteers at the Kansas Historical Society created the bread dough ornaments and then others from Topeka, Kansas City, and Hays painted them with pride, knowing they were helping to decorate both a Christmas tree in the National Christmas Tree display and our Governor’s state Christmas tree.
