Ohio’s ornaments were designed and created by art students from Ontario High School. Their inspiration centered on symbols of Ohio such as the cardinal and the buckeye, as well as more traditional Christmas-themed pieces. Students attempted to bring their own personal touches to their ornaments, and most students’ pieces reflect the mediums that they personally have focused on this year—for example, three students who have respectively worked with wire, felt, and wood-burning in creating pieces for the Ohio Governor’s Art Show used those mediums in their ornaments. Students dedicated two weeks of class time to designing and decorating their ornaments. Ontario High School is a midsize public high school located just outside of Mansfield in north-central Ohio.
