West Virginia

Cedar Grove Middle School

West Virginia’s ornaments were designed and created by 6th, 7th and 8th grade art students from Cedar Grove Middle School. The students were inspired by the variety of wildlife in West Virginia; we set our focus on West Virginia Birds. We chose to use air dry clay to create bird replicas that represent different bird species found in the Kanawha State Forest. A great resource was Kanawha State Forest’s webpage which features a Bird of the Month. We also received a book from affiliates of Kanawha State Forest, titled; Birds of The Kanawha Valley. These and other resources aided our young artists in creating beautiful West Virginia Birds. The students incorporated the theme of state traditions into the nest or background or the ornament. Students were very excited and honored to create the ornaments for the West Virginia Christmas Tree. Cedar Grove Middle School is part of a Community school which serves grades pre-K through 8. We can be found in Cedar Grove, West Virginia.
